FREE AGRI COMMODITY MARKET NEWS UPDATES - 04 MAY 2018

NCDEX May Soybean edged lower on Thursday mainly on technical selling by the market participants. As per USDA report, India’s total oilseed production in Marketing Year (MY) 2018/19 (Oct-Sep) is forecast to rise 10% to 38.8 mt on 38.4 million hectares, assuming normal monsoon season.
The production forecast for soybean is pegged at 115 lakh tonnes (lt) compared to 90-95 lt last year. There is still concern about demand from the feed industry and normal monsoon prediction by IMD which encourage stockists to sell old crops. Govt. is taking up the issue with China to remove restrictions on Indian soymeal.
CBOT Jul Soybean closed unchanged on Thursday on concerns about decreased export demand from China as well as rising expectations for a bumper crop in Brazil. USDA export sales report indicated 416,259 MT in old crop soybean export sales up 12.1% from last week but down 43.2% from a year ago. Exports during the week of 4/26 totaled 691,239 MT, 55% larger than last week. Pressure came from reports that Chinese buyers are switching to South America for its soybean requirement while U.S. soybean export sales to China have come to a halt. Brazilian soybean production is expected hit 117 million tonnes (mt) for 17/18 according to estimates from INTL FCStone, up 1.1 mt from their April projection.
RMseed (Mustard seed)
Mustard May futures edged higher on Thursday supported by lower level buying from the market participants. However, prices are still trading at 7 month low on concern over sufficient stocks with the traders and oil mills.
The USDA’s latest GAIN report forecast that mustard production may be around 70 lakh tonnes in 2018/19 season due to normal rains. In 2017-18 (Oct-Sep) mustard output in India is seen at 64 lt, down 9% because of lower acreage.
As per SEA data, the export of rape oilmeals during March 2018 is provisionally reported at 23,499 tons compared to 52,071 tons in Feb 2018, i.e. down by 55%. However, exports have been 162% higher at 5.62 lt for the FY 2017/18 compared to previous year’s export volume of 2.14 lt.

The government has kept crude soyoil tariff value unchanged at $824 per tn for first fortnight of May. Moreover, higher import duty and increase in tariff value during the current calendar year is making imports expensive. As per the data from SEA, soyoil imports during the March dropped 49.9% to 115,102 tons compared to 229,853 tons in the same period a year ago.
There are reports of 3% higher vegetable oil imports on year at 11.5 lakh tonnes (lt) in March. Stocks of edible oil in ports and pipeline are estimated at 2.11 mt as on Apr 1 compared to 1.91 mt a year ago while lower than 2.197 mt in Feb, data showed.
Crude Palm oil
MCX CPO falls close to 1.3% on Thursday tracking weak trend in Malaysian Palm oil futures. Moreover, cut in base import prices and steady domestic demand also weigh on prices. The base import price of crude palm oil was slashed to $671 per tn from $684 per tn. However, it is still supported by weaker rupees and good steady physical demand.
CPO has been trading all-time high in April due to jump in oilseed prices in the country following news on removing export restrictions on edible oils from the country. As per SEA latest report, India's crude Palm oil (CPO) imports in March increased by 30.33% compared to same period a year ago despite the govt. imposed higher duty. However, Shipment of RBD palmolein dropped 25.56% to 163,222 tons compared to 219,270 tons last year.
Malaysian palm oil futures slid to their lowest in over a year in on Thursday, on concern over weakening export demand. Malaysian palm oil product exports fell 5.7% for the full month of April compared with March, said AmSpec Agri Malaysia.
Malaysia's palm oil production for April is expected to rise in line with seasonal trend. It last rose 17.2% on-month to 1.57 mt in March, its highest March production since 2000. Malaysia, the world's second largest palm producer and exporter, would resume export duties on crude palm oil after four months of tax exemptions and set its crude palm oil export tax at 5% for May.
Chana
Chana May futures continue its uptrend and close higher on Thursday on anticipation of good physical demand at lower prices. Spices (Jeera & Turmeric)

Jeera prices have surged about 9.5% in last one month due to lower arrivals and pick up demand. As per Agmarknet data, arrivals of jeera in the country were lower by 5.8% at 28,874 tonnes during April compared to 30,664 tonnes last year for the same period. As per government data, Jeera exports during first 11 months of FY 2017/18 (Apr-Feb) is 124,394 tonnes, up 13.6% compared to last year exports volume for the same period. India's Oilseeds output may rise to 38.8 MT in 2018/19 on higher yield:

Assuming a normal monsoon, favorable weather conditions and near normal yields, India’s MY 2018/19 oilseed production, which includes Soybean, Rapeseed, Mustard, Peanut, Sunflower seed, Cottonseed and Copra is forecast to rise to 38.8 million tons on 38.4 million hectares, USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) said in its latest report.

Current year’s oilseed production is however estimated at 35.4 million tons from 37 million hectares, slightly lower than last year due to lower than anticipated yield.

Improving oilseed supply conditions in the forecast year will help Indian oilmeal production to rebound to 17.3 million tons from 15.9 million tons estimated in MY 2017/18. (Incidentally, oilmeal production was at a decade low of 13 million tons in MY 2015/16.)

Assuming normal market conditions and competitive pricing, Indian oilmeal exports in the forecast year will rise modestly to 2.9 million tons compared to the 2.1 million tons estimate of MY 2017/18.

The first quarter of MY 2017/18 witnessed Indian Soymeal prices becoming more competitive (with some export incentive) to gain export sales, but any further uptick in its prices will trim total export sales below 2 million tons and divert additional supplies, if any, to domestic use.

Concurrently, there is a strong demand for vegetable oils, forecast in MY 18/19 at 24.8 million tons. And while local edible oil production is seen rising to 7.5 million tons, there is a widening gap which will be filled through imports, projected to rise from 16.3 million tons to 17.4 million tons in the forecast year.

India's Soybean crop area may rise 15% this year

agri commdity tips, Agri Commodities, Agri commodity calls, Agri Commodity Trading, Agri futures, Agri futures Tips, Jeera Tips, MCX cardamom Tips, mcx mentha oil, SoyaBean Tips,
Area under Soybean crop in India likely to expand by nearly 15% after the government raised edible oil import tax to the highest level in more than a decade, lifting domestic oilseed prices to nearly two-year highs, industry body Solvent Extractors Association (SEA) of India said.

Higher production of the main summer-sown oilseed could help India, the world’s biggest vegetable oil importer, trim costly imports from Brazil, Argentina, Indonesia and Malaysia. It could also mean a boost in exports of Soymeal, a key animal feed, to Asian buyers such as Japan, Vietnam and Bangladesh, the association said.

Indian soymeal once accounted for nearly a quarter of all Southeast Asian imports, but the country’s share has been falling due to rising domestic soybean consumption amid stagnant production.

To support local oilseed farmers and curb rising imports of edible oils, India has raised import duty on palm oil, soyoil and other cooking oils to the highest level in over a decade.

After the hike, local soybean prices jumped to 3,895 rupees ($58.31) per 100 kg earlier this month, the highest level in nearly two years. The government-fixed support price for soybean was 3,050 rupees.

Soybeans were cultivated on 10.6 million hectares in 2017, down 8 percent from a year ago, data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare showed.

The most active May contract closed at a support of 3850 indicating a dicey solution. But considering stronger fundamentals, buying to be considered if May soybean fails to stay below another strong support of 3825. Bullish cues from the latest USDA report, released on Tuesday are likely to keep soybean supported at lower levels. The US soybean ending stocks were lowered from 555 million bushels last month to 550. Analysts were expecting an increase up to 574 on this report due to the March 29 Grain Stocks. Also with IMD’s recent bulletin on possibilities of good Monsoon this year, any recovery looks limited for now. Recovery in crude oil prices could brighten the export prospects keeping long term trend bullish. Prices however found strong support at these lower levels. High arrivals amidst some fall in demand kept sentiments down but traders anticipate the exports to pick up in coming weeks that could support prices in medium term. Slowing down of new crop arrivals from Gujarat / Rajasthan are likely to support market sentiments. Traders too anticipate further fall to be limited as prices have fallen a lot over last few months. The demand for the new crop is expected to rise at these lower levels in coming days. Due to high prevailing rates last year, more sowing was done for this crop. Good rains in Gujarat and Rajasthan further boosted productivity aspects and traders estimate the crop to be between 65-75 lakh bags. Jeera acreage in Gujarat is up by 38% to 3.83 lakh hectares as on 15-Jan-18. Acreage was 2.88 lakh ha at that same time. Demand on the domestic front is set to increase from April onwards
